Jody Daniel Newman — Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Newman has more than 20 years of experience spanning the areas of international business, corporate development, and legal and governmental affairs.
Since founding the Ibex Group more than seven years ago, he has advised Boards, CEOs, and senior executive teams at companies of all sizes—start-up ventures, high-growth enterprises, and large matrix-managed multinationals.
He provides integrated business and legal advice for clients in a variety of industry sectors, including telecoms, internet, e-commerce, IT, open source software, software as a service (SaaS), equipment manufacturing, airline and air transport, media and entertainment production, electronic payment accounts, cross-border money transfers, patent monetization, and "fourth sector" projects.
He has assisted clients in the modeling and strategy of a broad mix of international businesses, including video monitoring and conferencing services, digital media distribution, wireless broadband, VSAT, innovative mobile applications, flight simulators, and new internet root servers and domain name systems (DNS).
He has structured and negotiated dozens of partner and channel arrangements, helped clients expand their presence and capabilities in highly restrictive countries, and procured regulatory authorizations and licenses.
While serving as "interim executive" for a large multinational technology and information services provider, he led the client's worldwide regulatory team, redefined its strategy, and shepherded the placement of a new executive.
In prior years, Mr. Newman was a member of the original executive team that propelled Equant N.V.—one of the most global and multicultural companies—from a start-up to a dominant $3 billion technology and telecoms provider, consistently lauded by customers and analysts as one of the industry’s premier performers.
At Equant, Mr. Newman served in a number of executive legal and commercial roles.
As Vice President, New Markets & Channel Development, he led the team that developed and executed Equant's business model and strategy for corporate development, partnering, and indirect sales.
As Vice President, International Development, he designed and managed Equant's global expansion and its extensive commercial and regulatory activities in emerging markets. He has structured and negotiated transactions of all types with commercial companies, governmental entities, and NGOs across a full spectrum of cultures, political-economic models, and levels of development.
Before expanding into commercial roles, Mr. Newman was General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of Equant Network Services, where he had worldwide responsibility for legal, regulatory, and policy matters throughout the critical era of the company’s creation, corporate structuring, private placement, IPO, and rapid expansion to more than 10,000 employees, assets, operations, and customers in more than 200 countries.
Prior to joining Equant, Mr. Newman served as Senior Legal Advisor with Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA) in Montréal, Québec. Previously, he was an associate in the Washington, D.C. offices of the international law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.
Mr. Newman holds a J.D., with distinction and special honors, from the University of Iowa, where he was Associate Editor of the Iowa Law Review. He also holds an M.A. in Political Science (International Economic Development) and a B.A. in liberal arts following studies at Iowa, Georgetown University, College of William & Mary, and Central College in Yucatan, Mexico.
Mr. Newman lives in Atlanta with his wife and four daughters.
